聽英語學音樂】為音樂專業用系列叢書，在考慮專業內容同時，儘量照顧語言上由淺入深循序漸進。

《聽英語學音樂 2：曲式篇》共含課文20篇，所有課文均根據國外相關的原文書籍、雜誌和辭典改編而成。內容為音樂理論知識，總詞彙數多達8,987個。

　　曲　式

Form is a general word with a long list of dictionary definitions. As applied to arts, it is an important concept. In music, the elements are those that have already been discussed: rhythm, tone color, melody and texture. In a musical piece of some length, the organization is carried out by means of repetitions of themes, may they be tunes or motives, by repetitions of rhythms, tone colors, and textures, and by long-drawn-out contrasts, balances, climaxes, cadences, and alike. Simply speaking, form is the repetition, contrast, and balance of musical ideas.〔……下略〕

A. Binary Form

Many well-known traditional songs, such as Barbara Allen or The Bailiff's Daughter of Islington, consist of two principal musical themes, the one balancing the other. This is known as binary form (Fig. 1). Elizabethan instrumental music and also the 17th and 18th century suites of Purcell, Bach, Handel, and Scarlatti frequently used this form.〔……下略〕
